Altea: Spain’s quieter side
10.7.18, CH: When you think of holidays in Spain, you usually have cities like Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca or Benidorm in mind and the masses of tourists that are winding through the streets or looking for their place in the sun on the beach. Even if the big tourist hotspots of Spain are so well visited for a reason and have a lot to offer in any case, recreational holidays still look different for many. Fortunately sunny Spain also has other places to offer, where it is much more contemplative and also the original life culture of the Spaniards can be experienced even more clearly.
An insider tip in Spain is in any case the small town of Altea. Located directly on the Costa Blanca and only a 45-minute drive from Alicante airport, the artists’ town on the Mediterranean is strongly recommended. With just over 21,000 inhabitants, there is all the infrastructure needed for a carefree holiday, yet many by-products of larger cities do not appear here. While there are quiet settlements with holiday houses and apartments on the outskirts of the village towards the hinterland, the town can still score with its lively inner city life, which offers markets and other events, but also cafés and restaurants with local cuisine. Picturesque beach sections as well as the sailing harbour directly on the spot invite you to relax and also to do some sports.
The good connection to the regional metropolis Alicante and the mountains in the interior makes Altea the ideal starting point for excursions to the surrounding area and to other parts of Spain.
Many Germans, but also other Spain enthusiasts from all over Europe have already created a second home here. While the holiday home is not in use in Spain at the moment, it can also be rented out well. Holidaymakers from Spain and other countries appreciate the quiet yet central location directly by the sea.
